Covid-19 By:Rhiannon Weaver 6th grade
Once upon a time there was this thing called Coronavirus (Covid-19). People had heard about it but it was in China so no one really cared because it wasn’t around here. They had a lot of deaths and a lot of cases. Not many kids were getting it so it wasn’t for kids to worry about and it also wasn't near here. Then in a couple months around March 15th our church told us that we were now having hand washing stations because it was getting bad. I went to my youth group at that church later that day and we went outside and I had forgotten all about it. Then the pastor said, “Who wants to go to Sons?” (a local ice cream place) We all raised our hands because we wanted to go. Then he said on the way there we should talk about it and if we were worried and stuff like that. I had been absent for a few days because I was sick. My friend told me the school sent out a letter that they would be taking safety precautions.
I went back to school that Monday and they said on our morning announcements to wash our hands and to not touch our faces. Then eventually they sent home another letter about our lock-in (when you have a party locked in school) was cancelled and I was so bummed because that was on my birthday, so I thought my birthday was ruined. Luckily, I would still be able to hang out with my friends. Then about a week after that then we found out school was cancelled for a week. I was not worried I was still going to be with my friends on my birthday! I was so happy that I was still going to be with my friends on my special day. I got home and we turned on our news to watch our governor, Tom Wolf, speak about the schools being closed. He then ordered the schools to be closed for two weeks, but luckily I was still going to school on my special day. Then in the last week of being off he said that Philadelphia and some other counties would be in stay-at-home order meaning that they were only allowed to go to grocery stores and medical places. He also said to have schools closed for an additional 2 weeks. I was so mad because I had to now be off for my birthday. So then I was crying because I was not going to see my friends on my special day.
Then, down here where I live (Lancaster) was added to stay-at-home order and we weren’t even allowed to go anywhere so that’s how everyone had to stay home. Lastly, on March 30th they said schools would be closed indefinitely which means until further notice. Although, I feel sad I am keeping busy with my parents by doing Legos and puzzles. I hope this ends soon because I miss my friends.
